Dow Jones Personal Finance Reporter in NEW YORK, New York

Job Description:

MarketWatch seeks a reporter for its personal finance team who can filter the news of the day through a single question: What does this mean for me and my money?

It's what readers of every news story wonder on some level, and in a financial climate with boundless opportunity for bad decision making, answering it has never been more critical.

We are committed to reaching diverse audiences. At personal finance, our mission is to bring smart analysis, reveal new trends, and tell stories of people’s everyday lives.

An interest and experience in real-estate would be an advantage. Housing is the biggest, trickiest and also the most exciting purchase most people make in their lifetimes.

In an environment of rising prices and interest rates, we want to help people navigate this process, and shed a light on the human stories behind the big-picture headlines.

We are experiencing a cultural moment in which long-taken-for-granted attitudes about consumerism, capitalism, and the meaning of professional success are being challenged.

The ideal candidate is passionate about service journalism, and the belief that good reporting and writing can help readers lead richer, more meaningful lives.

Ultimately, this writer must be adept at explaining complex topics in a clear, accessible voice, and be eager to not only break news, but help readers make sense of it.

This reporter can bring her own interests to the role, and will be given the latitude to build and evolve her own mini beat through the lens of you and your money. Every story is on some level a financial story.

The position requires at least three years journalism experience, strong writing skills, an interest in finance, and a keen understanding of how to engage readers.
