Custom Research is a unified group focused on bespoke solutions for our clients. This involves unique research which is tailored and optimized for our customers’ specific needs.

The group is composed of teams who:

  • Research and write high-quality Due Diligence reports on companies and/or individuals;

  • Write targeted queries and hand select the most relevant news for My Company Today newsletters

  • Provide KYC remediation services through screening of entities and individuals against R&C structured data and negative news references in Factiva

  • Support WSJ Pro offerings via research and original writing on cybersecurity and other topics

The position sits within the Data Solutions subgroup, a team that offers screening and remediation services to our clients globally. We screen individuals and entities against Dow Jones Risk and Compliance content and/or Factiva negative news.

The Quality Manager Data Solutions leads a team of Quality and Operations Analysts whose primary responsibility is ensuring quality, effectiveness and overall efficiency of procedures and policies across 3 teams who perform AML risk-based review and analysis on individual and business accounts. The Quality Manager and team have a supporting function and are expected to operate independently and objectively at any given time. The role of Quality Manager requires a high level of ownership, critical thinking and the ability to effectively manage and develop team members who have a unique role within the overall team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead, motivate and develop a team of Quality and Operations Analysts, ensuring the team supports and guides the other teams in the most efficient and effective way

  • Focus on continuous improvement of the team, identify the need for training, coaching process improvement and provide recommendations to management

  • Monitor effectiveness of quality and operational procedures, identify gaps and provide recommendations and execute accordingly

  • Develop a Quality Control/Assurance program, implement key metrics and control reporting processes

  • Responsible for the correct execution of quality reviews and achievement of planned strategies

  • Develop, execute and manage internal audit plans. Act as contact for client audit as and when required

  • Ensure the continuous update of the methodology changes and guidelines applicable to the quality review

  • Provide specific training to the team to have the information up do date and keep the team motivated to achieve the expected productivity

  • Provide regular feedback to Data Solutions Managers and Data Analysts to enhance the risk review procedures

  • Assure all quality and operational reports to be accessible to all relevant stakeholders

  • Drive and facilitate discussions internally and with client to improve the process at quality and operational level

  • Liaise with stakeholders ensuring a constant flow of communication, knowing when to escalate issues to the relevant stakeholder(s)

  • Perform Quality Control reviews of alerts and reports for completeness, accuracy to ensure these are decisioned in accordance with internal procedures and regulatory expectations. Present accurate and professional reporting to management and clients as required

  • Organize and review production and quality data via Google or Microsoft Office products in order to monitor project progress; manage problems; publish progress reports

  • Ensure that clients receive clear, responsive communication to queries relating to the Dow Jones research process and its content

Skills, Experience and Qualifications

  • 2 years of experience in managing teams desirable

  • Familiar with AML typologies, experience with name (or transaction) screening in banking environment is a must.

  • Compliance or audit experience in KYC will be preferred

  • Experience with Factiva, Dow Jones Risk and Compliance (or similar products) are considered an advantage.

  • Fluency in English is essential. Professional-level fluency in any of the following languages will be a significant advantage: Chinese, Arabic, Malay, Burmese, Japanese, Vietnamese or Hindi.

  • Demonstrate a strong sense of urgency by responding immediately to escalated issues and rapidly changing priorities

  • Ability to deal with highly confidential information in a professional manner

  • Ability to maintain attention to detail and accuracy under pressure situations

  • Motivated, team-oriented, results driven and able to work independently

  • Must be a proactive self-starter who values personal accountability and ownership, and thrives, working under limited direction

  • Must have excellent communication skills and the ability to effectively interact with senior management as well as motivate, coach and mentor

  • Strong problem solving ability coupled with the ability make decisions autonomously
